1990 256 Dusky Full Rebuild Sole Help

Postby captmattson » Sun Nov 22, 2009 11:51 pm

Well, I have finished the new transom with 3 layers of 3/4 XL ply with 1708 and roven as my glass with MAAS epoxy. It came out to 3.25" inches and rock solid. I am now finishing my new stringers. They are made from solid fir lumber and marine ply that was taped and then covered in covered in 1708.

I'm trying to get a materials list together for my new sole. I'm planning on using XL for the deck. Any better ideas? How should I glass the sole? 1708 or cloth on top? Do I need to use cloth on the bottom of the sole as well? The deck was previously cored with 3/4 balsa with many layers of cloth on the top and one layer on the bottom. Since I will be using epoxy I wont need to make the glass as thick correct?

Any help would be appreciated. I'll post some pics of the new progress tomorrow.

If your using XL I would glass both sides with 6oz fabric or 6oz on the bottom and 9oz on top there is no reason to go any heavier. The 6oz on the bottom will keep that side from checking and possibly rotting in the future. If you used Meranti you could get by with two coats of epoxy on the bottom and no fiberglass.
