should I cut this piece of wood out of the corner of the transom. It was cut like this already. I was thinking to just leave it as is and epoxy in the new transom with it still in place on both sides. what do you think?

Its hard to keep momentum going. I have no help what so ever. I had fiberglass in every single pore I have from grinding. I bought a plastic type suit with a hood over the weekend. I will get back to working on it tomorrow after work. Finish up that transom and then start making a template. Then I will order Glass/resin. Those stringers are really going to be a nightmare. Does anybody have any suggestions on the measuring issue I will have. Getting that sole height correct and a nice seat on the hull. Im really not looking forward to that. Also what type of glass will I need to order for going over the new sole? How many layers will I put?

It should not be much trouble, maybe I do not understand what your talking about

You use the same biaxial glass to glass in the stringer extensions - do this after the new transom is in.

Sole height is just the same as before, its epoxy glued to the tops of your stringers.

sole gets epoxy all over, and epoxy/glass on the top. For the top of the sole I would use 9 oz woven, or anything that weight. For the sole top we are looking for toughness

I have the 2 transom pieces cut out now. Two 3/4" pieces will be glued. I just need to order the supplies and then I can glue the pieces together and mount it in. Then Glass it. Wifes car overheated so I had to pull the head, bring to the machine shop ect ect. There goes my epoxy money. I should recover shortly and place an order. Thanks Shine.

I need to get an estimate on the supplies that I will need to put the transom in. First question is a 2" thick transom enough for a 18' center console with a 115hp outboard.I believe it was around that or a little thicker before I cut it all out. I Need to know what heavy biax cloth to buy for the inner skin build up on the transom and how many layers to do and in what order.I also need to know what cloth to purchase to cover the stringers in after they are bedded in and tape with the biax tape. The back transom is a full transom and has no cut out for the outboard. I put my boat on hold and had to finish a lots of work on the house. Time to get working again. The boat is a Wellcraft 18 fisherman cc. 1989.

maybe, but it depends on the rest of the structure. Im confused, I thought you were rebuilding with plywood?

Could you please refresh your photobucket account so we can see those pictures? I cant remember the details of this thread.

The fastest way to build the thickness is going to be with 1708, which is all you need if you are going with a plywood core. Witha foam core we would prefer to use two types of biaxial cloth (1708 and LT1700) the second one has fibers running in 0/90 degrees and 1708 runs at 45/45.

You will want to reproduce the original inside skin thickness, 4 to 5 layers of 1708 will give you 1/4"

need to see those pictures :!: :)

Thanks for the promp reply. Yah. Im using a plywood core. Marine plywood. (3) 3/4" pieces. Refresh my photobucket. Its been awhile since I posted on here and I forget how to post with a picture etc. I have the transom core pieces cut out and ready to epoxy together, then install in boat. I wanted to get rid of these rod holder cut outs and fill them in. How do I go about doing that. Being that its such a large opening. http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk26 ... to/028.jpg. http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk26 ... /001-2.jpg. Back transom. Old Picture. I will take more pictures and post them up in my photobucket.
