Trailer bunk spacing FS 17 ?

Postby designlady » Sat Jul 14, 2012 7:57 pm

We adjusted the trailer to fit the boat today. I remember something Shine said about putting the bunks under the stringers. But this seems a little to narrow to me . The FS 17 stringers are only 24" apart. Just wondered what everybody else thinks.

Gonna try and get her on the trailer tomorrow.
Any opinions?

If you support the boat under the stringers and the chine, that would be ideal. 4 bunks are better than 2 and you will never have to worry about warping the bottom.

Looks like boat would be fine sitting on those bunks. However, I'd be a little concerned about it's ability to roll off the trailer if you ever had to turn rapidly while trailering it. If you keep them there, I'd be really good about tying it down to the trailer with ratchet straps.

mine are maybe a couple inches outside the stingers, no problems. A second set towards the chine would come in very handy for loading - I wish I Had put some on mine.

Same here, no problems. I did get some guide ons (the PVC post kind) but they're really only helpful for keeping the boat from blowing completely off the trailer when loading in the wind or current. I feel like the boat is well supported with my setup though; there's enough framing (and foam in mine) beneath the sole that unless you did something terribly wrong you'd have a hard time warping anything.

Couple of suggestions from past experience; take the plastic bumper off the rear crossmember and replace it with a wide roller mounted on the rear of the crossmember; saves some dings on the bow as you drive the boat onto the trailer. The plastic bumper is not as forgiving as it was intended to be! Move that bumper up on the axle just for safeties sake; there appears to be a hole already drilled for it!
