Glad I'm not the only overly excited person about this trip. I have amassed a bunch of bass pro shops cards, and I am planning on taking a stop on the drive down from Miami. I'll probably grab a good rod/reel combo and some other tid bits. If anyone needs anything I can probably grab it.

I'm getting more and more exited everyday about this trip 8) If you stop at bass pro take the one in Ft. Lauderdale it's a nice big store, great restaurant and there's also a quite interesting fishing museum on the site.

Great tip Richard (Aripeka Angler) emailed me so I thought I share, this shop has about the same setup and size as Lauderdale, and is I think even more on our way as the Lauderdale one,Thanks Richard, I for sure will make a stop overthere

Perhaps when some of you pros (builders and maybe even designers!) come down for the meet, you can stop in and give me a quick check up on my progress and offer tips, advice, etc. Who knows, I may make enough progress to have it flipped onto a trailer and sturdy enough to drag up the road to come show it off by then!

How far are you from marathon?

I'm at MM24 on Summerland Key, next to the bridge to Cudjoe Key.

That's about one hour south, I guess.
I will arrive on Thursday the 7th, late. Friday and Saturday will be spent meeting our builders. I should drive back on Monday.
Maybe Sunday?
Will you come to the meeting? Cracker Larry did build a great GF16 and will give you some tips. And I believe there will be a nice GF12 there too.

So is anyone else going to be there for the full moon snapper fishing

I'm flying in the morning of the 7th, so I guess it's a no-go for me. That will be an AWESOME trip. It's been way too long, but I love bottom fishing on a full moon 8)

There will still be plenty of moon a few days after full, if you don't mind staying up late.
This is a pretty good nautical almanac site that covers tides, moon, sun, solunar activity and all sorts of stuff. This link should take you to Vaca Key, June 7, maybe..

Edit: It doesn't, it defaults to today's date. Just put in the date on the right side of the page.

Nice site. I'm totally up for howling at the moon on the 7th or any and all of the days I'm in the keys. I'm coming to fish, drink, and socialize. So I'm up for anything and everything 8) (something tells me I should be careful what I ask for  )

As an aside: CL do you think the shimano baitrunner would make a good bottom fishing reel? I've always fished conventional reels with star drags just about locked down. I really liked the one you have, and it would be a perfect striper reel is why I ask. Thanks

I'm not a great fisherman but I did fish once at the full moon, in spring, for snappers.
It was in the Bahamas.
It was incredible, I have never seen fish bite that way, worse than a school of suicidal mackerels, they were begging to get on a hook.
The sharks were there too and you had to reel your fish in fast or the sharks would leave only a head.
