SH14 Forward frame angle

Postby misterpants » Fri Apr 06, 2012 9:38 am

On the plan that shows the dimensions of the sides, the line representing the forward frame intersects with the uncut plywood edge (bottom side) 2' 9 1/4" from the tip of the bow. There isn't a dimension measurement specifying where the opposite end of the line intersects the top of the side. The Line's angle on the plan appears to be about 93 degrees to the edge of the plywood. Should I just mark where the bottom of the frame joins the side and angle the frame so it's flush with the top of the side when I get to the step where the two sides are being bent around the frames? Thanks in advance.

At 2' 9 1/4" from the tip of the bow, draw a perpendicular line (plywood edge is the bottom side): at 7/8 is point for bottom, at 1' 8'' point for rubrail line, forward frame line is at approximately 3/4'' (for the top) of perpendicular line . Verify the angle (with a hand level) before definitive frames assembling .

I finished my SH14 in November. I can't find anything in my notes about how I positioned the forward frame.
I would follow Gianni's suggestions above, especially the suggestion that you check for vertical when you are assembling the forward frame.
If you are going to sail your SH14 then the position of the upper and lower mast supports are more critical and it is easier to determine "vertical" once you have installed the bottom panels and the skeg.

Good luck, and have fun
