Maybe that helps with less theft in Illinois... Lots of kayaks go missing around here.

I would enjoy hearing yours and others thoughts on rigging it. Anyone got suggestions as to which wood to use? I'm guessing Meranti may be best for durability ( ?? )

I am going to use 4mm ocoume plywood. I plan to use the ply that I had earmarked for the second Orca to build this fishing kayak.
As far as rigging, all I need is a space for a 2 gallon bait bucket, 1 rod holder and room for ten lbs. of ice. Any of you guys ever tow a bait bucket behind your kayak? Does it paddle ok or would it be better to plan on a d cell battery powered pump on the bait bucket?
Completed boats...XF20 "Red Alert", Aripeka Angler's Strip Canoe
Currently building...PY12 Kayak

I think a bait bucket trolls fine. Sometimes it bumps the kayak when you want silence but otherwise just make the tag line long enough to put the bucket behind the your paddle stroke.

Charles is rignt on the nut unless you want to travel. In that case just set the bucket on the deck between your legs and travel. I usually have to stop every 20 minutes or so and take the chance to change the water in the bait bucket. Sometimes when your fishing an edge and the drift is down the gut you can position the bucket to make the yak drift with the bow angled toward the bank.

I like that, a multi-purpose combo drift anchor, bait bucket and boat positioning device :)

Yes. I mention that in the building notes and explain how you must keep a few inches offset all around the cut, optional sole in it etc.

Thanks, Jaques, being able to do that opens up a lot of options. :D
