Re: FS17 in Steinhatchee

thb, I'm familiar with the 420's (my line of work deals with the failure analysis and warranty side). The issue we see most is contamination getting past the filter system. Mostly a maintenance problem due to filters not changed or seated properly. Due to the environment these things work in it's to...

Re: All Cracked Up

PangaRon I thought I was looking at a picture of the gunnels on my xf20 when you posted that pic. Mine did the same thing  .I'm pretty sure mine can be corrected by putting some butt blocks under those joints, then tabbing it in with some biax tape or cloth. Originally I just glued some blocks ...

Re: Just prime or finish painting before flip?

IMHO, it would be best to flip and paint the outside as soon as possible or according to the plans. A smaller hull might not be a problem but something
as large as my xf20 hull was hard to handle. I went too far on the interior before flipping to paint the outside.

Re: FS14_LS Build. Drain Holes Needed?

The plug I posted earlier in this thread allowed a decent size drain and does not clog with debris. I did take a little bit of rubber off of the expansion ring with a drill and sander but it fit this scupper great .You just cut to fit the hull thickness. Brand: Sea-Dog Sea-Dog Thru Hull With Scupper...

Re: FS14_LS Build. Drain Holes Needed?

On my xf20 I used round scuppers with the rubber flaps, on the sole, and got some expanding plumbing pipe plugs from home depot, then went to Fastenal and replaced the metal parts with stainless steel. They have worked great, easy, quick to put in and take out. My sole drains into the bilge pump area...

Re: Bondo?

Hi fishmedic, just to add my 2 cents. When I was getting ready to build my XF20 I went to a local guy that does the boat repairs for local marine dealers thinking he might be of help with some good pointers. The guy knew Corvette bodies and maybe polyester but I quickly realized he was clueless abou...

Jeff, great times like that make great kids. That's what my four still talk about when they get together and that was 30 years ago.

Re: One more wood question....

Shouldn't there be a stamp on the wood showing its' quality/use etc?
