Re: Great Loop Trawler/Cruiser - Concept

I would think a week at a minimum . I would like to see one larger fuel tank , with a smaller tank for when extended range is needed . The VG 26 concept for cruising and Island hopping should minimum for livability , and expanded to fit the greater size and disp.

Re: Great Loop Trawler/Cruiser - Concept

So Gulf and Bahamas will be part of the criteria ? 8 mi to 12 mi speed , under 10,000 displacement , 33' + or - , less than 10' beam , I like the bunk beds in the B&G trawlers , could leave a single birth area to be used for other uses , draft 3' + or - , box keel , mast ,13' + or - clearance , some...

Re: Great Loop Trawler/Cruiser - Concept

I like the layout of Ted Brewers " Quite Times " if the head were pushed back . I would like the head as far away from where I am cooking and sleeping . 33'11" is close to the sweet spot of 32/33 , and the other numbers look good to me as well . I wouldn't want to take it into the gulf , it needs to...

Re: Great Loop Trawler/Cruiser - Concept

Could a stepped mast be added for added range along the Gulf Coast or Island hopping ?

Re: BEEN A LONG TIME thinking of building another

Thanks Dougster , those are good numbers , 18 mph would work . " Would it handle big chop " would be my next question , it can be a rough ride getting out the bay into the gulf here . Fallguy1000 , I like the Skoota , but I don't want that much windage for a fishing boat . If there is a squall line ...

Re: BEEN A LONG TIME thinking of building another

FLYonWall , I was talking about the back in the 90,s Cape Horns , a 16' would get you anywhere and bring you back home as long as you had enough gas . I have never heard of a hull cracking on one , but back,s are another story , they were a young mans boat , and should have had slickers come standar...

Re: BEEN A LONG TIME thinking of building another

I used to think a flat bottom boat would be OK for Mobile bay or the Delta , that was until I put in close to four years working on the river every day rain , fog , or shine in 24' to 26' Carolina skiffs . You can't beat a Cape Horn as an all around boat for our waters , but my back is bad , and I d...

Re: VG26 limits

Would the VG26 be less sensitive to heeling and better balanced is stretched length only ? If not will the motorsailer be in the same 10 ton range shown , or will it be a lighter displacement ?

Larger VG

I know a larger VG would probable not generate the sales need to to justify the design . So over the years I have looked at scaling the VG26 by 10% . Looking at what went into the design I think it started as a VG27 and then scaled down . If I am right standing head room was a trade off when it came...

Re: An All-Season Trailerable Sailboat

While the 30' sailboat has been brought up could you either rethink finishing the one you started , or may be look at the pluses and minuses involved in turning the VG26 into a VG 30 or close to it ? I know one builder put a stright shaft inboard into a VG26 , but I think it was electric . I don't w...
