Re: Motor mount material selection

David, Where are you located. I have a couple of clear cypress logs right now and a Woodmizer sawmill to make what ever size you need. I did not understand the size you stated. What thickness? Regards Tom in Steinhatchee :) Thank you very much for the offer. I could only find douglas fir, and figur...

Motor mount material selection

Is there a type of wood I should use for motor mounts? I built all my stringers from laminated marine plywood, but don't want to laminate 10 pieces to get the desired height. I would really prefer not to laminate at all unless the best material is only avaiable in smaller sizes. I need something 6" ...

Re: How to prepare fiberglass cloth prior to wetting

Ok guys, I have all the tape and cloth cut and numbered. Before I start adding resin I wanted to know if there is a better way to lay cloth in the corners. The small cloth tab in the third pic will be underneath the two big pieces. Thanks http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/5188/boatpics001.jpg http://...

Re: How to prepare fiberglass cloth prior to wetting

One of the biggest things I found if I planned to do a lot of glassing in one session, is to be organised & have everything laid out ready, including stuff to wipe up spills & hands. Cut all your tape & cloth beforehand, roll it up & label it(including which end goes where  ask me how I worke...

Re: How to prepare fiberglass cloth prior to wetting

Cracker Larry - The more I hear from you guys the more I realize how much time laying the glass is going to take. Thanks for the heads up with the wood flour. John - Thank you for all the detailed info, it gave me a much better perspective of what I'm up against. Working each box is what I planned t...

Re: How to prepare fiberglass cloth prior to wetting

I thought I had ordered slow hardener, but my receipt says medium hardener. I will defininetly mix small batches at a time. The fabric with mat I was planning to use on the sole as well as the stringers and ribs. Two layers of tape at each seam/joint and one layer fabric mat over the top of the stri...

How to prepare fiberglass cloth prior to wetting

Could anyone give me some advice on how to prepare the fiberglass prior to wetting out. I've attached two pics of what I'm trying to cover. I purchased 50 yds of 12oz. 6" wide biaxial tape and 10yds of 17oz .biaxial cloth with 8oz. mat. I remember reading in another thread, 2 layers of tape on each ...
