Re: OB19 first build Maryland

I built one of the first OB19s, and I don't recall having any issues with aligning the frames and stringers (it might help with your troubleshooting knowing that you can trust what's on the plans).

Re: Prop n speed question

It's an interesting problem you've got there. The tritoon is at about 1000 lb per hp (sorry for the conversion from metric. It's also assuming the electric motors are rated similar to a typical outboard, ie. 1hp ~ 750 W). With those, and assuming you can model the tritoon as a "typical" displacement...

Re: Gulf Fishing Boat Suggestions

I'm just up the Bay from you in Apollo Beach. I built an OB-19 that I used offshore all the time. I had no problem taking it 30 miles out. It wasn't the smoothest ride for our typical gulf chop, but it got the job done. When the wind was blowing 10-15 knots, I was mostly running about the same speed...

Re: Cx25 Integrated Bracket

Jacques I fully understand your point. Lengthening the stringer would in fact extend the hull and that is probably more trouble then it'w worth. What I had in mind was more like lengthening the stringer at an angle to create the bracket piece. Essentially the "bracket" would be and extension of the...

Re: C19 - Changing from 20 to 25" Shaft

I'm lazy, so this is what I'd do. And if shipping isn't cost effective, you could probably get a local machine shop to fab one up for you easily. http://thmarine.com/hi-jacker-fixed-jack-plate You already have a full height, engine well bulkhead, so raising the transom doesn't gain you much in the w...

Re: HM19 or HMD19 or P19?

I wouldn't expect to be able to achieve anything over hull speed with a 20 hp motor on the HM19. If may only take 20 hp to cruise at 15 mph, but to transition to planing, you'd likely need closer to 40 hp to get over the bow wave. If you are limited to one motor, I'd plan on having it set up and pro...

Re: Anyone Fishing?

Derrick, I tried (I'm guessing) further south than you and all we got were peanuts. Literally, all we had in the fishbox was a peanut dolphin. We went to a pipeline mitigation site in 120' we've done well in the past, and all we saw on the bottom were beeliners . We did salvage the day inshore with ...

Re: World Record Free Dive

I'm not sure where the 5000 and 100 numbers come from, those numbers have been around for a long time. I'm guessing it was from a year where someone took total "competitive freedivers" and total drownings while snorkeling/freediving. I don't know what the total number of people that would consider t...

Re: World Record Free Dive

The competitions are actually really safe. By far the biggest danger is blackout from lack of oxygen, and because of the way the body processes oxygen, the chance of blacking out at depth is practically nil. That's why you see all the safety divers swimming with him only the last 100 feet or so (mos...

Re: I think I've narrowed it down.

For your program, personally, I'd be looking at an OD-16/18 or the FS-17. Assuming you can use your current boat as a donor for a lot of the hardware, you shouldn't be too far off on your budget. With any of these boats, you'll realistically be over 1500# at the hitch (trailer and engine alone will ...
