Re: GV11 Plus needs Hydrofoil, Trim Tabs or ... ?

Thanks for all the feedback. I did take the boat out the other day with a second person in it - no other changes from the initial run. She behaved much better. So it is pretty clear that a change in weight distribution would solve everything. I am reluctant to go the tiller extension route (and ther...

Re: GV11 Plus needs Hydrofoil, Trim Tabs or ... ?

The engine is set up in its lowest trim position. I do have a triangular shaped trim board under the engine mount on the outboard side of the transom but it is not very pronounced. I could make another one of those boards and get an additional 1/4in (over 5-6in so lets say between 2 and 3 degrees) t...

Re: GV11 Plus needs Hydrofoil, Trim Tabs or ... ?

I should have added that I weigh about 225lbs. This additional weight (me and a 15HP 4 stroke outboard) was the motivation for extending the hull by 6in between that aft seat and the transom - providing some additional buoyancy in the stern. Of the three issues, the porpoising is the biggest concern...

GV11 Plus needs Hydrofoil, Trim Tabs or ... ?

I recently retired the old 15HP Merc 2 stroke that I was using on my GV 11 Plus ( a standard GV 11, lengthened 6in at the stern, 90 deg transom, 20in (long) shaft, a bit heavier build due to floors between stern and mid seat and boxed in foam at stern and bow). I repowered with a 15HP Yamaha 4 strok...

GV11 Engines

I thought a lot about this topic earlier this summer when I was deciding on what engine to get for my GV11. I boiled it down to this: IF I were willing to spend the money on a new engine it would be a 4-stroke. I was unsure whether this was a long term boat for me so I was reluctant to invest so muc...

Tow Vehicles

Thanks for the responses. I am not really surprised. It is nice to have access to voices of experience. My Passat Wagon has a Gross Vehicle Weight of 4730lbs with a 190HP engine and permananet 4 wheel drive. I would guess that the C17 would be workable but I agree that another tow vehicle would be b...

Panga 22 Pilot Enclosure?

Like many others here, I am intrigued by the Panga style, capability and low powering requirements. Here in the Pacific Northwest it is frequently desirable to be able to get out of the weather. Would it be feasible to add a permanent top with removeable forward and side windows - something that mig...

C17, C19, P19, P21 Trailering Weights, Tow Vehicle Question?

I am trying to decide which boat to build. I live in the Pacific Northwest and want to troll for salmon on the west coast of Vancouver Island so ... offshore capability as well as being able to get out of the weather are important. Also I'd like to use my Volkswagen Passat AWD ( with permanent 4 whe...

Finally Launched!

Another GV11 launched yesterday - approx 6 weeks after start, with a fair amount of help from a friend of mine. I extended the hull by 6 in, built the vertical transom model and armed her with a 15HP engine. Performance is wonderful! Will plane with 4 adults (no gear) without any problem. I'll post ...

Thanks, Lon, for the info. I've drilled it so that the center-line of the bow eye is 7 Inches above the bottom point of the bow. That should be good for towing and hopefully OK for the trailer, based on your info.

Cheers
