Re: Supplies in Sydney

Try Marineware in Roselle.I buy from MW supplies here in Newcastle & if the Sydney store carries the same range you will be able to obtain everything you need except plywood. I have never been to the Roselle store but they appear to be in the same group. There are many other suppliers in Sydney that...

Re: GV11 and 1957 Johnson 7.5 outboard

Dan, I made a GV11 about 8 years ago, just after Lon Underhill in Montana finished his.Lon runs a 10hp Nissan in fresh water & I originally ran an oldish 9.8hp Merc mainly in salt water. I covered the outside with 'glass set in epoxy, epoxy coated the inside & added two-pack expanding floatation foam ...

Re: nc16

Sadly I lost the only pics of it sailing during a computer crash some time ago before I could save them to disc. The only pics that I have are here in Builder Galleries & also you'll see a couple of the boat rigged if you look at NC16 in Boat Plans & go to pictures. She's yellow & in there with lots ...

Re: nc16

Is the NC16 a CC14 scaled up proportionally or simply lengthened with a 2' plug in the centre? When I looked at both some years ago I built the CC14 as I only needed a solo canoe & it is a great little boat. I converted it to a proa using an old windsurfer rig & gave it to young nephews who have giv...

Re: Means to prevent swamping on a short shaft stern

I built a GV11 to Evan Gatehouse's original plans in 2003 with the higher transom to take long shaft(20") motors & currently run a 15hp Merc(the US-built model) long shaft motor. The boat is very stable at anchor & has never shipped water over the stern....except the water dripping from freshly caug...

Yer mad ya bugger! I recently re-engined my faithful GV11 with a 15hp 2 stroke Mercury( the American one,not the re-badged 18hp Tohatsu sold as a Mercury 15hp Super) & anything approaching full power cruise is white knuckle stuff! With 2 up + fishing gear,I just power away from stationary with full ...

Cat 12 vs Payson Tiny Cat

How does the C12 perform compared to say Payson's 12' Tiny Cat (Bolger's Bob-Cat) ? or the Glen-L 13?

Al.

Thanks for that.

You say she gets up on the plane fairly easy....how fast do you reckon she'll go in a stiff breeze?

And how stable is she?....how easy is it to capsize?

Thanks.

How did she perform under lug rig?Was it standing or balanced lug? I'm looking to build a small sailing boat like CAT 12 and need to be able to rig/de-rig on the water in order to get under a car bridge (boat launching ramp on wrong side for boats with masts/superstructure!),so the mast has to be sh...

Good intentions don't always result in good outcomes...hence the cane toad & jet ski menace. But I admire your enthusiasm and would hate to discourage you from trying your own ideas. At least you're having a go at something many don't have the nerve to try.JUST BE CAREFUL!...I think that's the messag...
