Re: FS14 Build - Pics, etc.

As long as it glued, it's fine. If there is a gap, fill it with more epoxy.
Plain epoxy runs, is difficult to apply as a glue on vertical surfaces, that is why we mix it with some wood flour.

Re: HP requirements for wooden boats

Friends don't let friends build a Spira design.    All the previous comments are correct: same hull, same displacement = same HP requirement but . . . The weights are not the same. My designs do not require closely spaced 2x4's, they are lighter and stiffer, therefore they do no...

Re: LM18LS cockpit drainage

All those boats are designed to be self-bailing at the dock. With no crew, the sole is well above the waterline. Once people and gear get on board, the waterline goes up. With a big engine, lots of fuel and 2 guys in the stern, water reaches the scuppers. It does not mean the boat will sink, with bu...

Re: Cat 22

Hi Jacques, Any chance of a couple more drawings A4 size, so I can play around with the width, Also lots of the hull shape where it hits the water. and front on. Did you buy the plans? You could import the PDF files and scale those ones. I would not change the hull shape, only scaling all by max. 1...

Re: Cat 22

Jacques missing his drafter might hate me for this, but I really would have liked to see a 3D interactive rendering of my boat before I built it. M That's only 200 hours of work. Seriously, I can scale a rough model and do a few renderings in 3 or 4 hours but not right now. I am still very busy wit...

Re: Free magazines and books.

Fall guy, those are old magazines, they look old, they are not museum pieces. I went through them to get ideas about design and left sticky notes here and there. There is no water damage, no pages stuck together. I posted on Duckworks too, I have many friends there but I give you first pick. Let's s...

Re: Phantom test ride

In a 100 miles radius around Gainesville, there must be around 100 PH16 and PH18's built. I designed the boat around 25 years ago based on a local plywood design. It was first produced in fiberglass under the name Ghost (not the Ranger Ghost). They look like the Willys boats but are much wider, very...

Re: Free magazines and books. FREE

Update: the magazines are still there and I did spend a couple more hours in the attic doing some inventory. Here is what I have to give away: - a complete collection of Professional Boat Builder from number 1 to last month, 25 years total, a real boatbuilding encyclopedia. - about 15 years of Boat ...

Re: FS14ls Why not cover the complete outside of the hull with glass?

It is a matter of preference. Those small boats do not need glass all the way up the sides but it does not hurt to cover the whole panel with a light cloth. I try to design a standard version as simple and light as possible but builders are free to add things. I usually consider that the fiberglass ...

Re: Texas PY 12

No updates: it is a good simple boat based on an old design for plywood.
