Re: C17 Air bubbles between glass layers

I don’t know what you have decided in the end ... I feel your pain though as this has happened to me before. A heat gun can be a useful tool if used carefully to pull up glass. If you score the sections you want out with a knife you can peel sections of the glass you want to with heat and a palette ...

Re: Panga 22 Semi Cabin/Enlarged T-Top Question for Jacques

My feelings are you would be absolutely fine doing something like that - plywood will be much lighter than the fibreglass equivalent of that cabin...

Re: So umm how important is a strong stringer lamination?

A set of small grain scales from amazon is very useful for mixing small volumes and remember to mix all in one cup. Another good trick I learnt from Devlin's book when laminating large pieces of ply - like stringers - is to drill some small (4mm) holes through one of the two pieces to be glued. You ...

As I guy who has had to gut and rebuild his whole boat because some epoxy was mixed wrong - a bit heartbreaking after using it for 4 years - I would do it again... you are at a stage where 4 hours work and 60 dollars in materials will be all you need for peace of mind for the rest of your life!

Re: C Series Scuppers?

Happy New Year Dan - the extension and repair going well - am over the hump - she is flipped, foamed on the inside, new sole has been glued down, front locker is back in and so really she just needs the motorwell back in, console glued down and painting. Been a long road - and Jacques was right that...

Re: 23 ft Hartley Cabin boat repair/rebuild and hull extension

Have you tried AMT composites - they sell an amazing range of Gurit Epoxies and are very knowledgeable. They will ship to Mossel Bay. I can understand you using polyester resins over the synthetic core - but you might be wise to spend a little more on epoxy over wood and as a laminating/ gluing resi...

Re: Duckbill Gemlux Scuppers

I like how neat the gemlux look! Was thinking of having a few just to take the splash off the boat - and then one could always have a plugged bigger scupper for an emergency

Re: C Series Scuppers?

Hi Dan - I only just saw this. Those “scuppers” are really just an oval fiberglass tube that I made over an oval shaped wooden mold. Easiest is to do a few layers of fiberglass and let it set up. Them cut it off the mold lengthwise and take it off - it will have a slit but it will have the shape you...
