Re: Glass and foam?

I am currently building a cooler/ice box/esky/chilly bin for my boat using the same method as I used for my insulated live-wells. I have made up panels of 2" high density closed cell foam laminated with 1/4" and 1/8" ply external and internal, respectively, and one layer of 12 oz biax glass on each ...

Re: Advice on small boat as fly fishing platform

I would look at the Garvey 13 built as a tiller steer or side console, with a front casting deck. Down-scale by 10% if a 13’ boat won’t fit.

A small boat can be quite stable if it has a flattish bottom and sufficient beam. We often fished 3 blokes standing to cast lures from my tinnie, which is 4 M.

Re: ST21 Hybrid Powered "SKINNYDIP" Noosa Australia

Sorry to hear about Mrs G's accident Michael, but glad that you have her patched up OK! It highlights one of the hidden dangers of solo boating. I was involved in a incident a few years ago where a mate slipped while stepping from his boat onto a jetty - knocked himself out cold for about 10 minutes...

Re: Phantom 16/18 vs Bow didge Flats Chat

I have a copies of the plans for Bow-didge Marine's Flat Chat 18 and Roguewave 14, which I bought with future builds in mind. I notice on their website that he only appears to offer the Flat Chat 16 now. I also have a mate who is building one the smaller Bow-didge designs. The build method is essent...

Re: BarraMan's Mangusta 21 barraboat in Townsville, AUS

Good project Lee. You cant have too much insulation, and effective drainage is a must. Indeed Michael! My plan is for 2” (50 mm) high density closed cell foam all round, although I could be convinced to put 3” or 4” (75 mm or 100 mm) on the bottom. 50 mm foam will give me a 200L ice box. I certainl...

Re: BarraMan's Mangusta 21 barraboat in Townsville, AUS

I have tried a couple of store-bought ice boxes in the hatch under the front deck of my boat, but nothing has worked to my liking. So I have decided to put my newly developed glassing/epoxying skills to work to build a fit-for-purpose custom built ice box - or “esky” as we call them in Oz - “c...

Re: Knoxville Jay’s C17 Build

Thanks, everyone. I think that I may have actually broken my orbital sander. Its spinning at really high RPM when I hold it up but when I put pressure down on it the sander stops spinning and it just hums angrily. Oh well, that's what extended warranties are for. I went through three random orbital...

Thanks for the well wishes gents. We've crossed the Noosa bar safely after being escorted out by Mal Hunt on Granite Express. It's great to be out cruising again. :D
So Michael, decision time - north or south?

Re: ST21 Hybrid Powered "SKINNYDIP" Noosa Australia

Michael, given that I have one successful bar crossing under my belt (well sort of - I was 1st mate in the FBBB when my pro-fisher buddy took it over the Brunswick R bar) I would offer to drop around and take her out for you, but unfortunately I am back in Townsville! On second thought, lookin...
