Re: WV13 Epic Fail

It was really ugly job. I ended up removing the sole with a jigsaw and a grinder. Then I used the jigsaw to cut a few inches off the stringers and smoothed it out with a planer. I had to make an entirely new sole, but it wouldn't fit in one piece around the deck, so I made a cardboard mold, traced i...

Re: WV13 Epic Fail

Hi Folks, Just a quick update. I hacked out the sole and lowered the stringers by about two inches. It was an ugly fix and I definitely need to do some cleanup work, but I took it out for a test drive today and it was much more stable. I was only on the water for about five minutes (it was freaking ...

Re: WV13 Epic Fail

Here's what I thought was the finished WV13. I'll post again once I'm done hacking it to pieces and putting it back together :)

Re: WV13 Epic Fail

Thanks again guys. Looks like I'll be ripping out the seat and starting over. Any tips on how to get it out without destroying the hull? I don't have a grinder and I'm not sure I can find one here without paying a fortune, but I'll look around. Maybe some careful jigsaw work with a lot of sanding......

Re: WV13 Epic Fail

Thanks guys for the advice. I'm sure the plans are accurate, I'm just not sure my implementation of them was :) I felt really high and couldn't keep the boat balanced, even in calm water while sitting still. I'm guessing I screwed up on the stringer height. The scuppers were sitting between two and ...

WV13 Epic Fail

Hi folks, So I finally got a chance to take my wv13 out today and it didn't go so well. I was sitting way too high above the waterline and it was impossible to keep the boat stable. I ended up taking a dive in about four feet of water. Fortunately, the Adriatic is still pretty warm this time of year...

Re: WV13 New Builder Where is Frame "B"?

Hi, Did you ever get a chance to look into this? I came here with almost the exact two questions. The build notes reference "cockpit knees" but I don't see any plans for cutting them. I can see them in the pictures on the website, and it looks like they are designed to reinforce the edges of the dec...

Re: Did I sand too much?

Okay....I think I finally got a picture to upload. I know that gap between the panels is hideous, but I'm choosing to ignore it :) This kayak only has to last for a year since I can't take it with me when I move soon anyways. This is basically a practice boat. Anyways, back to the original question,...

Thanks Jacques. I assumed so, but always better to ask :)
