Re: Reverse chine and spray rails

Just to jump in... I built an FS14 a couple of years ago. It's a fantastic little vessel and does everything I ever wanted with one exception: I get pretty damn damp with windblown spray when the lakes I use it on get choppy. I came back to the forum to get some advice about adding a spray rail and ...

Re: FS14 March 2016

Thanks everybody, @ cape man - the wood's a mixture of sapele and, what I think - the guy who gave it to me had no idea of its origins - African mahogany. This came to me in short - the longest was 2' - lengths about 3/4" thick by about 3" width. Once split down the middle and planed the finished pl...

FS14 March 2016

Having started building in November 2015, I'm relieved to say that my FS14 hit the water this weekend, and I'm delighted by her looks and handling. While having a bit of 'Gentleman's Launch' about her I intend to use the boat as a tender for our barge, for surveying rocky waters for charts, and for ...

Re: FS 14 trim query

Thanks for that Deuce. Unfortunately my hobby surveying rivers and lakes means I occasionally end up in shallower water than would be wise, and the first thing I have to do is quickly raise the outboard (I leave the down lock off so it can lift itself but there's still a bit of banging). If I sit to...

Re: FS 14 trim query

Thanks Jacques,

Point taken, and I'll shift everything forward as you suggest. Will doing so mean the boat will be pretty much flat in the water at tickover?

Regards

Re: FS 14 trim query

Thanks Jacques, In the main all surveys are done at just 2-3 knots - pretty much tickover. I do have some kit that can run 5 soundings and positions a second that would allow me to survey on the plane, but not with the sidescan running - and that's the transducer (Lowrance LSS2) I really need to get...

FS 14 trim query

Greetings, I'm now getting my FS14 together - well into after a few cock ups that is... - and will soon have to commit myself to fitting transducers I asked how to best install some months ago. One of the primary purposes of building the FS14 is to use it for surveying lakes and rives, and I need to...

Re: FS14 stringer length query.

Thanks Jacques - it didn't occur to me that the measurement would be on the imperial plans. And please don't go back to the office just to check this for me - I've loads to be getting on with so early next week would be perfect.

Re: FS14 stringer length query.

Thanks for the replies Jacques. What's thrown me is the little bit encircled in red in the image below: The ambiguity - at least to me as a novice - is I'm not sure of just how this section works: it looks as if there's a short flat end on the stringer but no measurement for it, and the stringer app...

FS14 stringer length query.

Greetings, I've spent a very content day drawing out the panels from the FS14 plans. All seemed well, but then I ran into a bit of an odd one - and I'm sure it's me... - with the forward section of the stringers as I can't work out what length they're meant to be: http://gallery.bateau2.com/albums/u...
