Lightweight GF18 vs normal GF16

Evening! Life keeps getting in the way and I keep having to postpone the build so every time I do, I go back to the drawing board. I have GF18 plans and believe that is probably better suited for my current needs, though a bit more expensive. I'd like to have a wider boat with more stability than th...

Re: Found my GF18 plans!

Thanks Tom. I read through a few threads with children assisting and I’m thinking about doing the fl14 for the first build and then gf18 a few years from now. One poster made a great point about keeping it moving quickly instead of letting it sit around to keep their interest so the fl14 will allow...

Found my GF18 plans!

Hey all! Thought I lost my plans in the move last October because I couldn't find them in any boxes, but I just found them on Sunday. The build(whichever one I do-was toying w/ getting FS19 plans earlier this year but decided against it) has been put on hold for a while since we just had baby #3 abo...

Re: Stitch and glue teardrops?

Pretty cool idea. There was a guy on here building a pickup camper out of Nidacore but I never heard how it turned out. I would think nidacore would work out pretty well. It should have some insulation value and you can bend it pretty far if it only has glass on one side. After glassing the other s...

Stitch and glue teardrops?

Hey all, I have no clue which subform this goes into, so please move around as you see fit! So, as much as I want to get started building my boat, I've pretty much come to terms that it will probably be about 2-3 years away before I start my first one. My wife doesn't want me to take the boys out on...

Re: FS19 deck question

It definitely is a regional thing....I am used to seeing shiny skiffs and poling skiffs with huge decks and bass boats that are literally all deck except for console and seats. When I see boats up in the north east (granted I only have experience in that region from what is seen on tv), i see a much...

Re: FS19 deck question

I think i am getting confused , i think he is talking about decks others are talking about the sole. which one :?: To me it sounds like he wants to extend his front casting deck with wider wallk around side decks . Bingo. I know adding huge decks are generally frowned upon here as the plan for the ...

Re: FS19 deck question

One layer of 12 biaxe on each side of 3/8 ply is as strong or stronger than 1/2 ply. How big of a unsupported span are you going to go :?: If you plan out your under deck support correctly you should not need 1/2" ply for decks. I think the biggest span might be 4x2 or 1x6 for live well or rod lock...

Re: FS19 deck question

What is the expected weight savings if I were to compare 1” nidacore to 1/2” ply?
