Re: Port A XF 20

The System three primer was used on the outside and inside of all the projects that I’ve painted. Marine Spar Varnish has been used for all of my projects with a bright finish. Awlgrip was used as the topcoat on the exterior of the FS-19 on the hull sides, transom, swim step and inside the livewell ...

Re: Port A XF 20

I’ve used the System 3 Primer on multiple projects inside and out and the WR LPU on a couple of projects for the topsides. Easy to use and durable. I’ve used Awlgrip for the hull sides topcoat.

Re: Jacques Questions

The FS 17 & FS 19 are based on the North Carolina original Simmons Sea skiff design. They would be good choices as well. I can personally attest to the smooth dry ride of the FS 19. They are very roomy too.

Re: FS19 Questions for Jacques

On the FS-19 that I built, the sole was raised one inch, partially to accommodate the 35 gallon aluminum fuel tank that was installed under the sole. The build thread has pictures of the fuel tank before, during and after installation.

Re: Cape Man's Dory

Love bugs are a sure nuisance. Some years are worse than others. We haven’t had it too bad here this year so far, but last year was another story. They will do a number on a paint job; before, during and after painting. Hate to take a driving trip during love bug season. They are hard to get off aft...

Re: 14-15' light, simple utility skiff

Sounds like a job for a light version of the Swift Canoe (SC-16) similar to Cape man’s or a standard/scaled up SK-14. Perhaps even a Honker would work.

Re: FS19 in Sherwood, OR

The transom is big and heavy. I believe that I put the stringers on the jig first, then the bottom panels, then the side panels, then the transom. There should be some pictures in my build thread. When I attached it to the hull sides and bottom on the mold/jig I used a temporary brace from 2x4s that...
