Want to build Honker 15

I am looking at building the Honker 15 for a friend and have some questions around some possible changes. My friend would like to paddle the boat like a kyak but keep the option of an outboard. We like the open cockpit and partially covered deck. My questions are these: Will she paddle well enough g...

On my Dinghy, I laminated two pieces of rubrail together and put a rabitt on the underside of the rubrail so that I would be left w/ the top of the rubrail covering the plywood edge at the sheere line. This worked very well and gives a nice look.

good luck w/ the boat building.

I have only built two boats, but I have also found that adding silica to the mix seems to add more strength for gluing. At least it sands more difficultly than epoxy mixed w/ wood flour alone. For gluing scarf joints and such, I mix to a consistency of mustard or mayonaise. I save the peanut butter ...

Regarding staining; It is important not to use an oil based stain under epoxy and glass as the bond will be compromised. I have tested a water based stain from Minwax and the glass and epoxy took well on the test piece of Okhume ply. As was mentioned above, three coats of epoxy will fill the weave o...

My Passagemaker Dinghy has a take apart version for nesting purposes. I realize the Garvey is a different boat but it seams that one could take a look at adding solid bulkheads at the front seat station.

Evan or Jaques, what do you think?

GV13-Multiple Builds

I have purchased a set of plans for the GV13 and I have a couple of questions before beginning construction. This is my second stitch and glue boat, the first being a Passagemaker Dinghy from CLC Boats. The build went well and I am comfortable w/ the stitch and glue process. After discussing my Garv...

Have been using a Festole sander on my Passagemaker Dinghy and it is simply the best sanding tool that I have ever used. Expensive and worth every penny if you are doing more than one boat. The shop that I am working out of has done about 15 boats and is still on the first Festole. The unit is basic...

Thanks guys, guess there won't be much in the way of water skiing. However, I'm still looking forward to building and enjoying the little gem. The boat seams like a prety strait forward design and I can't wait to begin the build. It is good to know that this forum is there for help. I am currently w...

Water Skiing GV13 Beef up Transom?

I have read the posts about water skiing and tubing and see that the GV18 is on the list. I would like to know if the GV13 could handle a water skiier on occasion? I have already purchased the plans and before I build it would like to explore if there are any changes I would need to make. I am wonde...
