Wood flour vs cotton flocks

Hello again, I have hard time getting good wood flour. All the producers I found in Poland sell it only in tonnes  I found only one guy that sells "wood flour" for ordinary people. He says it's fine pinewood dust from a dust collector in his wood pellets factory. Is it good enough? Alternativel...

Re: FS14 resin viscosity for laminating/gluing

Ok, thank you very much. I'll order the same amount of both slow and fast. They have the same mixing ratio and the guy says I can blend them to experiment with the pot life. I guess this is a good starting point for gaining some experience. Will see...

Re: FS14 resin viscosity for laminating/gluing

Ok. So for this general purpose resin I have four main hardeners to choose from. 1. Super fast : for lower temperatures (around 10*C), surely too fast for noobs; 2. Standard : pot life 10-15 min. in 20-25*C (the technologist said it would be best suited for my 15-20 temperature range); 3. Slow : pot...

Re: FS14 resin viscosity for laminating/gluing

Great info! Thanks. I'll focus on this general use one then. Its description says it's meant for laminating by hand, so it leaves no doubt. One more question. What is your favorite or recommended pot life? I have quite a lot of hardeners to choose from. I will have to ask the technologist for help w...

FS14 resin viscosity for laminating/gluing

Hello, I have another noob question... I'm about to order the resin for my FS14. I think I found good supplier in my part of Europe. Their technologist suggested to use two resins: less viscous (500-900 cP) designed for laminating and more viscous (2.500 cP) best for gluing frames, stringers a...

Re: 6 oz. tape substitute for FS14

Thanks for the answers. I googled, I looked on european Amazon, eBay, polish suppliers, czech suppliers, UK suppliers  Specified 45/45, 15cm tape is stupidly hard to find. Wider woven 0/90 tapes are also uncommon or strangely expensive. I guess I'll have to improvise. Looks like it might be eas...

6 oz. tape substitute for FS14

Hello. For my FS14 I have plenty of 12 oz. biaxial 45/45 wide fabrics to choose from, but I have problems finding anything close to the specified 6 oz./6" 45/45 tape. Can I just use this 12 oz. fabric, cut it to 6" stripes and use it instead of the 6 oz. tape? Will it be much more difficult to work ...

Re: FS14 engine weight

Thank you for answering. The engine is Mercury 40hp, 4cyl, 2stroke, long shaft 20", el. starter from 1980 or so. I will use it gently and mainly for cruising rivers and canals at speeds certainly lower than 30mph. I will definitely support it as well as possible. The transom saver is actually someth...

FS14 engine weight

Hello. I'm about to start building my FS14. But the thing is, the engine I already have weights about 180lbs (>80kg). It's an old Mercury 2 stroke. It's a bit too powerfull for the boat, but I don't intend to race it. I'll limit the revs and maybe put a lower pitch prop. So my only concern is the we...
