Re: Fs14 ls

The height of my strongback/table was set at 36", but that was to make it comfortable when first building (the GF16 is built just a little different than other JM designed). Real easy to work on the sides and front/back transom, not so easy now to work on the hull bottom. I used, like OQ said, casto...

Re: 18 ft fiberglass over wood transom repair, How many layers for tabing?

Yes, i have watched many a video on transom replacement on her and youtube. The problem is i am not replacing the transom on a like boat. My boat is wood and fiberglass overlay. Allthe boats i am seeing are just regular fiberglass with wood in the transom. So i have to come up with some structural ...

Re: OD16 Electric Outboard Thrust vs RPM

Minn Kota actually recommends 2lbs per 100 lbs of loaded boat. From their website: "Refers to how powerful the motor is. Boat weight is key when determining how much thrust you need. General rule of thumb: you need at least 2 lbs. of thrust for every 100 lbs. of fully-loaded boat weight (people and ...

Re: FS18 on the double!

Looking good! :D Quite a few of us used wooden dowels to line up the rubrail. Stack each side together, seams staggered, clamp and drill holes for dowels. Apply first layer with the dowels glued in. Then the second and third layers will be lined up when it's time to glue them to the first layer. I d...

Re: 18 ft fiberglass over wood transom repair, How many layers for tabing?

Can't help either but here's a vid from a series I watch. Now it is a different style boat but from watching you'll get an idea of how many layers could possibly be needed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gnD2-urn1EQ Not sure if this will help or not but...for my smaller boat all the exterior seam f...

Re: GF16 Kansas build

No pics..... Still plugging away at the GF16. Mostly sanding and everyone here already knows sanding :D Slight delay as I picked up a wrecked '08 Ford Fusion for cheap. Youngest son will be driving soon and figured a cheap, already wrecked car would be ideal for him to learn. While it seems each pan...

Re: GF16 battery in bow, wire size?

Either I'm not searching right or manufacturers aren't putting out much spec info on their starters. It is very hard to find the current requirements for electric motors. The part number is good. I found a few places that sell the starter for anywhere from $41.00 to $115.00. And fits anything from ...

Re: Epoxy on duct tape

I had a helluva time getting the duct tape I used to make the dams for sharpening the chines to stop sticking to the epoxy! That opposite of what you're asking though. Not sure of the reverse.

It stuck so well to the epoxy (on the hull holding the cardboard in place) I had to sand it off. :help:

Re: GF16 battery in bow, wire size?

I emailed MarineEngine dot com and asked since they have the exact model I have on the one I just bought. 18-5611 - Starter, 50-90983A1

Either I'm not searching right or manufacturers aren't putting out much spec info on their starters.
