Here's a good write up on Simmons Sea Skiffs that also talks about the Silva-built boats with fiberglass hulls.

Re: Graphite Epoxy over Fairing Compound?
So just clean with acetone and epoxy right over the smooth fairing compound?

Graphite Epoxy over Fairing Compound?
Hey guys, I'm rebuilding a Simmons sea skiff with fiberglass running surface and wood sides. Sanding paint off the bottom and going to do a graphite epoxy coating. There appears to be a fairing compound over the glass (see pic linked below). Is it safe to leave that in place and epoxy over? If so wh...

Re: Panga Transom Question
The transom core is not some strange stepped chunk of wood. If you look at the first photo in the linked gallery (my first post) you'll get an idea of the shape. Re: Panga Transom Question
Thanks for the welcome guys! The transom has a crack in the top cap a couple inches to the right of the engine. If I had to guess I would say it was from a previous owner hitting something hard with the skeg. The crack was never properly repaired and has been open to the elements for a number of yea...

Re: Panga Transom Question
I've read that entire thread... and a couple dozen others. However, I haven't seen anyone re-do a transom similar to mine. Just looking for insight as to the best places to make the cuts. I'm tempted to go at it from the outside given that the core does not extend down to the bottom of the hull or t...

Panga Transom Question
Hi guys! New member here. I have a twenty year old panga made by Allmand boats. She's a bit of a beater but the design of the boat is top notch and I've been taking her further offshore lately so I thought it was probably a good idea to fix a few things. The floor is completely shot but I have a goo...
