Re: CR13 Question for Jacques

Hi Jacques: as I look over CR 13 plans, I think the dagger board (3 layers of 1/2 inch ply) is overkill for a boat this size ,shouldn't two plies be enough? on the other hand, I think the rudder is too small ( the surface area in the water could be wider and deeper) for better steering and tacking ....

Re: CR13 Question for Jacques

Hi Jacques : I noted something in Expande Plates of Cr13 plans ,for the forward section of bottom panel there is a note to see "full size pattern of Bow Mold " I don't understand if this has anything to do with cutting the forward piece of bottom panel as shown in expande plates .Can you explain ? t...

Re: CR13 Question for Jacques

Jacques: thanks for the reply, but, but, I am glad I didn't turn away the wooden mast - I just looked carefully at CR13 plan and saw where for a wooden mast it called for a mast starting at 2.5 " tapering to 1.5 " and calls for epoxy laminated . the one I am considering ,as I stated earlier -the bas...

Re: CR13 Question for Jacques

I have located a wooden mast that I believe will work for the CR13 - it weighs about 14 lbs. ,but to me seems a bit flimsy, I can pass it up or could I tape wrap it and glass it for greater strength? How much wt. could that add?, it is just over 19 ft., also I probably could "shave it down a bit " t...

Re: CR13 Question for Jacques

is there a wt. max for a wooden mast for the CR13 , also, max for dagger board, and rudder/ tiller ? I plan to use 2.5 HP motor(about 40 lbs.) and have weight and strength concerns ( I assume the transom as designed will handle this motor!) thanks Sal

Re: CR13 Question for Jacques

Jacques : I posted mast question for CR13. I live in SW Florida Port Charlotte. I lived in Md and access to used sailing equipt. was very easy there, are there sailboat grave yards within reasonable drive from Port Charlotte ( I would drive to you even across state if used masts were available) -the...

Plan to build Cr13 ,while waiting for plan arrival ,some questions and comments- for the Spars- I have a white oak board that was destined for a butcher block- it is 2 1/4 " X 9" X 72 " . is it advisable to use it for mast and boom construction?- I could scarf ,and insert steel bar at joints if nece...

metric Vs english syst.

I went to order plans and noticed I can have metric or English measurements -any thoughts on which might be better for amateur building (which may be more forgiving ,more accurate ) ? thanks Sal

Re: CR11 Questions for Jacques

Jacques: thanks for addressing my concerns-really appreciate your info.( I am now convinced! and have to decide -CR11 or CR13 . Two final questions-
1) what are sail areas of the two-11,13 (no spinnaker) and 2) what is the best power tool(in your opinion) needed to build either model ! thanks Sal
