Re: 1971 170 Aquasport Rebuild

Rick, on my AS I covered the planing surface with graphite. It's not visible when on the trailer. I used System Three over Sterling primer for the rest of the hull. Got to say the surface is hard and tightly bonded. It has sat in the water many days with no sign of bubbling or peeling. It does have ...

Re: 1971 170 Aquasport Rebuild

Great work Rick. Been following along on your rebuild as much as I can. Had that same issue on my 22-2. Probably a 1/4" hook in the same areas. Build mine up the same way eventually finishing up with wood flour then graphite. It's a lot of work but has to be done.

Re: D15 Build in Rockport TX

Store your boat at the dry stack and call ahead and tell them you want to go fish and they will pull your boat, float it, load your ice chests, a fuel it it up and have it waiting on you. http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r223/purpletexan/IMG_3459.jpg I also recommend the Red Fish Bay Boat House. ...

Re: 9 mile swim to shore!

I'm not sure about this story. I know I could not swim that far. I don't think a safety line is workable on a fishing boat. I would be tangled up in all manner of equipment and tackle. An automatic inflatable life vest is a must offshore. I'm wondering if a remote ignition kill switch would be the w...

Re: Buoyancy foam and milk jugs

My first thought was, how long before plastic jugs deteriorate like one does when one it sits out in weather? Seems like you might end up with voids where jugs used to be. I was saving all the Styrofoam peanuts Joel shipped my supplies in (that's a lot of packing peanuts ). Seems like a better choic...

Richard, the Rhino liner seems to seal very well. No sign of seems or joints any where. Mine is a 2005 with no sign of rust.

Re: Spray on Coatings vs Poly

Richard, my 3/4 ton had rhino liner in the bed when I bought it used. Pretty much beat the crap out of it using it as a work truck. The liner has some dings in it but holds up very well. My previous truck had a plastic liner that was not as good, even warped. It also trapped water under it, not good...

Re: Anyone Fishing?

I've been fishing a few times since the Texas Builder's meet with nothing much to brag about. I finally got a couple of nice days this weekend and went back to Port O'Conner. I fished long and hard Friday with nothing much to show. There was a north east breeze and pressure rising. I picked up a var...
