Re: XF20 & XF22 Materials

In the process of budgeting (should say "Guesstimate") the cost of building a XF22. I will have a 7' bow casting deck and 5' stern deck, center console and raised sole. I will be laying two layers of 1708 on the hull. The boats will be used primarily in the rivers and lakes of central Mississippi f...

Re: Cape Man's Dory

I’ve seen a similar crack except the boat was bright red. I’d be willing to bet since Clara lives under a canopy, the transom is sound.
Cut out a wedge in front of the transom and take a peek.

Re: FS-18 - "Bare Bones"

Mike, I’m probably not going to make Jensen. First grandkid is due in two weeks, very excited. :D
Poling platform will be on sometime in the near future. It’s on our TTD list.
The race would be fun, we will for sure have to do it.

Re: FS-18 - "Bare Bones"

AT&T cell phone photo transfer from Cedar Key is a little spotty. Two pics are all that I can load. Will try again mañana.
Bare Bones is working great.

Re: FS18 on the double!

I knew Larry very well, I also have met Mike. Capeman and I fished and hung out with Larry a bunch. In fact, Capeman and I are probably the only two guys on the planet to have seen both boats you just mentioned. They were/are well built for sure, works of art. Larry was a hell of a craftsman, Mike a...

Re: FS18 on the double!

Ay ay AA! Good idea about taking one layer at a time - seems pretty all of a sudden! :) I am planning on adding the rod holders and gunnels as per the plans, if that’s what you mean? I had a few custom plans but have heeded Jacques’ advice on sticking to the plans, given it’s my first boat. ...

Re: 1708 mat

Also i have never used 1708 stick mat. Is it hard to work with?? Thanks in Advance Nightcrawler (Roland) Hi Roland, welcome to the forum! I built one of the XF20 boats Jeff mentioned. I have never needed any help laminating anything except the XF. The 1708 is an adventure to wet out, be sure to hav...

Re: FS18 on the double!

This is changing the subject, are you going to put in the frames that support the hull sides?

So do you think just a single layer of CF on some PVC would be strong enough, without any FG?
No, one layer is probably not enough.
Put on a layer, let the cf cure, clamp the bottom and twist it. Add layers until you’re happy.
