Re: Building light weight GF16 w/ Composites

Thanks Jacques! I'm considering keeping the bottom made out of wood for durability and ease of repair, along with the sides of the boat. My version of a hybrid I suppose :) One area I'm not sure about is the transom though, I know I could save a lot of weight there but no sure what kind of layup wou...

Building light weight GF16 w/ Composites

I've built one GF 16 with an outboard jet and am thinking about doing another. This time though I'd like to get a little more technical and build it as light as possible. This will still be a rough and tumble hunting boat and will feature a center console again along with a 40hp jet. Is it feasible ...

Re: Ziess' GF16 Build in Oregon 40hp Jet on,New update 2/27/

Flood season again so got another chance to put the little GF16 through her paces. We ran some crazy shallow stuff in this video. Many spots are approx 1" of water depth and some parts aren't even that deep! :D We're starting to make plans for another version of this boat that is wider, taller, and ...

Re: Ziess' GF16 Build in Oregon 40hp Jet on,New update 6/11/

Why not just take the lessons you learned in building, repairing, and running this boat and build a new one that better suits your needs? I don't see anyway that it would be worth the time, energy and money to make this boat wider. It would probably cost less to build new and you would have a bette...

Re: Ziess' GF16 Build in Oregon 40hp Jet on, pics/vids and ?

Update, We've been running the boat a lot lately and are really happy with the performance. She runs super shallow but we'd really like her to be a bit wider. My BIL had an accident this past weekend in the boat and sank/ flipped her. The foam in the middle seat kept her above water and he was able ...

GF16 Runner Placement to minimize slide?

Some of you may have seen our GF16 that has been through several motor configurations, well we've finally settled on an outboard jet setup with remote steering and are having some unique steering issues. When we finally put the boat back together we were left with the original runners that stopped a...

Re: Ziess' GF16 Build in Oregon 2.5 Year Later Update!

Here's some pics and video of the boat too. It ran roughly 33 mph up stream and 34 down- more than fast enough. I think once we trim the motor correctly we'll pick up a few miles an hour. More importantly the boat has amazing hole shot now even with 3 adults in it and that's what we were really look...

Re: Ziess' GF16 Build in Oregon 2.5 Year Later Update!

Ok, we finally got the boat finished up an the new motor on it. Had the opportunity to run it and so far I'm very happy with one exception, turning. It slides terribly and we're going to have to add runners back to the bottom. As it sits right now the runners stop about 3.5 feet from the transom bec...
