Gelmagic questions

I got the Silvertip kit for my fs14. Gelmagic is what I should use for the stitched seams on the hull? Seems a touch thin, if I leave a root gap with a nail or dowel as shown, will it be thick enough as mixed to not fall through? And, after mixing, can I fill an empty caulk tube for a neater applica...

FS14 two questions

The sides are joined with two partial butt blocks that go up to approximately the mid seat top level. do you do anything with the rest of that joint before stitching and prior to gluing and glassing. Glue with tape?, glue without tape? just leave it loose until glassing? On FS14 building notes, page...

Re: FS14 3/4"gap, transom to stringer

Have already moved on. left the dimension pulling end (bow) of the strongback alone and left all molds/frames in place since they were near perfect. Trimmed the stern end of the strongback taking the angle from the stringers (It's only one degree different from the 3/4" in 3-1/4" for the strong back...

Re: FS14 3/4"gap, transom to stringer

Excuse me, in the previous post, last line that long strongback dimension that is spot on is 127-1/8" not 121-1/8".

FS14 3/4"gap, transom to stringer

OK I spent a lot of time getting my strong back jig as near perfect as possible. I hit the long dimension of 121-1/8" within 1/32". It is square within 1/32". each of the mold/frame supports are within 1/32" . the molds are square both sides so no visible gap shows on a framing square. The stringers...

Re: Maximum wait time between prime and glue

Thanks!

and "say what"??? That last one didn't make sense until I went to the Bilge. Ironically I just bought some recycled teak that came from deconstruction and it was a good experience.

Re: Maximum wait time between prime and glue

Are you thinking System three not Silvertip?? I'm asking about epoxy resin primed surfaces before gluing butt blocks and other laminations.

Maximum wait time between prime and glue

My search indicated that you should wait at least until mostly cured when applying glue over primed surface. I read 30 minutes to an hour. Is there a maximum? can I prime all on one day then glue all on the next day? Using all silvertip stuff.

Re: FS14 bottom butt block?

When you say "round" you're talking about putting a radius along the entire 15" (short) dimension edge both ends? My question has to do with positioning the butt block the long way and what to do with the 1/2" it is short to the stern bottom panel. Make it short 1/4" each way (keel and chine) and tr...

FS14 bottom butt block?

Just starting and want to get off on the right foot. The Bottom butt block is perfect rectangle and 25" long, the stern bottom panel is 25-1/2" at the widest part (stern bottom). When I line up the butt block center line on the seam how do I place it on the long dimension. Seems like I should split ...
