Re: Fitz 21 CC Transom Stringer Sole R&R

I did get a coat of Sterling Transportation white on the console today and learned a few things. (1) I don't have a very dust free environment (2) on vertical surfaces, tip vertically to avoid curtains (3) gnats suck! (4) gnats really suck! (5) this stuff really does lay down nice. (6) my prep work ...

Re: Fitz 21 CC Transom Stringer Sole R&R

Does e-boat's carry anything?
Not sure about that. I'll dig around and see. Anybody know any other good designs to let water out and not in?

Re: Majek 21 RFL rebuild

Looks Good Hoot! At least you don't have a ton of grinding to do to remove all the stringers. Your demo is nearly done. Wish mine had been so easy. Looks like a good project boat for sure. I'll be watching.

Re: Fitz 21 CC Transom Stringer Sole R&R

I wipe a good bit of putty in the hole after I coat it with some neat epoxy, and then coat the fiberglass tube and force putty in as I work the edges like forcing grease in a bearing. Once it is all hardened up, I just use the oscillator to cut them back and then the DA to finish of the contour. I p...

Re: Fitz 21 CC Transom Stringer Sole R&R

Here's a few updated pix. Still going around the boat fairing sanding and priming, but I am just about done with all that I hope. I added a couple of new 1 1/2" scuppers on the transom just above the the sole level http://gallery.bateau2.com/albums/userpics/24192/normal_20131026_140743.jpg http://ga...

Re: Rebuild Kit for a busted transom

Yep, Like Shine said, there's a lot of basic stuff you need to learn about before you dive into something like that alone. Spend some time reading through all of the rebuilds on here and you'll have a better idea of the things involved with a major repair like that. Good luck, We are all glad to hel...

Re: Fitz 21 CC Transom Stringer Sole R&R

So I keep going around and around and around with the filler and the primer, BUt I think I am ready to do a final sand on the top gunnels and roll on some paint. :help: What grit sandpaper should I do for the last step before rolling on the Sterling Topcoat? I am using the transportation white...

Re: '72 Hydrofoil Tridyne 22' transom and sole rebuild

Tripp, For future layups, the fillets don't have to be truly "wet". You have up to 24-48 hours to get e chemical bond, so if they are kicking a little that's no big deal really. Just work in smaller batches so the putty doesn't heat itself up so much. It is easier to get them to mold to the glass wi...
