Re: Future CK17 - How difficult is brightwork?

Clear LPU with UV protection looks nice also and can last much longer. I put light glass over doug fir in some bright areas. It was fine in NY and NC. NC it slightly bubbled on the horizontals (not the verticals). In Florida sun and heat, it bubbled horribly under the glass. Doug fir can hold a lot ...

Re: Caravelle 16 pre build questions

Oops. Sometimes posts are overlooked... I hope you are continuing in your build. I've been off the forum for awhile, but spotted this, so.. With the aluminum spar kit, there is a mast foot (shoe?) made of aluminum that gets screwed/bolted to the plywood mast step. The mainspar/mast then fits onto th...

Re: Beginning stages of a VG 20+ build.

I realize I'm a little late to the game here...regarding transferring to plywood from any of the fullsize plans. The plans I have also have nested fullsize plans, or nested *tiling* of a single large part. Transferring to plywood is simple enough. My biggest decision was to poke holes in my plans, t...

Re: A few words on paint

I don't know if you would get the best adhesion to a graphite epoxy layer. Primer is typically in part meant to stick well to a structural substrate and also provide good adhesion for the finish layer. So... The techies at the finish company will probably recommend their primer over the epoxy graphi...

Re: A few words on paint

I think he's just working out the overlap procedure. :) I overlapped the lpu topsides with bottom paint. Sand prep the area of the overlap first and prep as required. Then i sand prepped both (cured) carefully, and painted the bootstripe over the meeting of the dissimilar paints. Topsides and bootst...

Clean Login link is insecure -- NOT https

On a clean system (no cookies yet), I went to login to the forum. Firefox 51 or above was kind enough to tell me that the login page was insecure. It was using plain http instead of https. Snoopers and other lowlifes could easily observe my username and password in transit *on the wire*. I manually ...
