Re: Will a FS14 still plane with my weight?

Guys I think Ken has selected the FS14 because he needs to get into and out of areas packed with brush so he can clear the way for his kayak groups. Other wise he would be looking at a larger boat. At 950lbs listed in the study plans the boat is down 1.5" below designed water line, the extra 241lbs...

Re: Will a FS14 still plane with my weight?

The right boat is the FS 17. The FS14 can carry a 25, but The weight difference between the 25 2 STROKE and 25 4 Stroke ...... The 25 is a bit over kill for this build (FS14). Honestly I was looking for a boat that was a class A. 14' boat that can handle 800 pounds fits right in my work program eve...

Re: Fast Skiff 14 - strong back, transom, bow

I am building this boat and have absolutely no experience in this or even wood working. After a bit of research I think i found an error in my strong back, should I add a couple of boards as supports as indicated in the graphic here: http://www.bateau2.com/howto_texts/images/transomup.jpg ,Would it...

Re: Yamaha 15hp fourstroke

I am selling the 15hp to buy a new Yamaha 25 and use in the meantime. I am getting ready to build the LM18 and want to have an engine ready for it. The 25hp will be way to much for the FS18 but will work in the meantime. It is a long shaft 20". Runs good and pushes the FS18 28mph by myself. It does...

Re: FS 14 Transom for short shaft 15"

Jack plate is the best solution but you can cut any of the transoms of any of my designs to fit any shaft length. I explain it here: http://bateau2.com/howto/shaftlength.php But again, a jack plate is ideal because you leave the transom intact if later you want to use another engine with a differen...

The jack plate is the perfect answer. Just make sure that when tilted all the way up it clears the top of the transom. You may have to cut a slot out of the middle to allow for that, but it won't be as deep as trying to mount the motor directly to the transom.
Thanks.

Re: FS 14 Transom for short shaft 15"

Do you have the motor? If so measure down from the clamping plate to the ventilation plate and cut the transom to that size. Beware 15" motors can be anything from 14 to 17" so it is important to have the motor to get the right cut down. Most importantly why do you want a 15" shaft a 20" provides m...

FS 14 Transom for short shaft 15"

FS 14 Transom for short shaft 15" The plans and the CNC kit show a 20" long shaft. I was planning on installing a jackplate (FS14LS), now that I'm building the FS14, need a little help on the transom height for a short shaft. Has anyone cut down their transom? What would be the best approach? I do l...
