Sorry Jacques for not being clearer. What I meant to ask is how much more epoxy should I buy? Can I calculate based on glass weight or is area a better basis?

Epoxy it turns out is the major cost.

It is all about the QCD - Quality, Cost and Delivery, which sums up to what we call here TOTAL QUALITY. The value propostion you are espousing is that using stitch-n'-glue gives a better overall QCD. I've been doing estimates for your VG20 as well as one for a standard frame design and the hull cost...

The glass manufacturer here only has polyester and vynil resin so as Justin pointed out there may be a problem with their mat binder. I really wish it were easiler to just buy the materials from you. Shine suggested using woven beneath the biaxial to add the necessary bulk. My problem now is that th...

1708 = 17 oz biax on 8 oz mat?

If biax is difficult to find out here in the Philippines, all the more would 1708 which is needed for your VG26. My question is can 1708 be subtituted with 17 oz biaxial cloth on top of an 8 oz (chopped strand?) mat? Substituted mean exactly the same result.

Thanks.

Dear Jacques, I have been thinking about the substitution of woven cloth for biaxial cloth and I think I see your point. I posted this on our local Philippine sailing forum so I will quote it but please correct me if I am wrong: Not that I doubt Stephan's results but I am still trying to find a sour...

BOM conversion factors

I now realize that the fiberglass in your designs plays a critical role which is why you have often discouraged your builders from replacing biaxial with woven. A big turn-off of importing is the cost though this may only be an incorrect impression. So I would like to do an actual estimate and compa...
