Re: stringer dimension on OB17

Okay, by digging around I found what I needed, only problem is it seems to differ slightly with what I already had. The station plans show all the stations from B to E with 7" from baseline to bottom of frame, and the sole is 1/2" thick. That should make 6-1/2" space for the center stringer, and spe...

OB17 question

I'm looking at the expanded plates page and the dimensions given for the stringers, side and center. The side stringers have a dimension at the aft end that is slightly different from the next dimension forward- i.e. the top and bottom of the straight rear section are not parallel. The center string...

Re: Glassing stringers

pretty sure it's been done both ways without problems, but I think the preference is stringers first and open up notches in the frames if need be.

Re: Bending tape around corners

Agreed that the poly will help hold things down, but if you've got square corners that's still a problem. Plenty of us round the edges off after the initial gluing of panels- it's easier to shape the joint when both pieces are fixed together.

Re: Cedar compared to.....

Old growth southern yellow pine is rot resistant, if you've got some with nice tight rings that's good. The majority of what you can find these days is not especially rot resistant. It is still good construction wood, but it will need protection.

Re: OB17 Sheer Alteration

Thanks, Joel. Plans have been ordered, I'm thinking of building a scale model and monkeying with the details- too soon to start building but not too soon to start planning! :P

OB17 Sheer Alteration

I see the question has arisen in years past about altering the sheer line of the OB17 to make it "more pleasing to the eye". On the one hand I see comments (not specific to the OB series) about how if the sheer line isn't what you want, just change it. On the other hand it seems like when someone ha...
