Re: Mike Schwind's SK14 Build

I just used SYP (pine) from the box store (HD) for my rub rail. It's got a coat or two of epoxy then three coats of Cetol. I don't know about Cypress, but bet it would be nice

Re: Mike Schwind's SK14 Build

Well that's a bummer. I would clamp the rub rail on first to see if that takes care of it. I suspect it will. If not I might cut out a wedge of foam to relieve the pressure. First would be to clamp on the rail though.

Re: Mike Schwind's SK14 Build

No I think that'll be great. My 5 hp just runs me at 12mph or so. You'll do better. I carry a double paddle too and can maneuver and poke along with that as well.

Re: Mike Schwind's SK14 Build

Nice! I like mine plenty and put a Minn Kota riptide with spotlock on the nose and a propane Tohatsu 5hp on the stern. I didn't build a seat into it and wish I had. What do you plan on power?

I've seen him. Give him a thermos of coffee and a belt sander, then stand clear.

Re: Problem with Quick Fair

Pretty sure I'm empty but I'll check in my shop later. Who knows, if I find any it won't be much and I'll let you know. I do have some old microballoon mix you can add to marinepoxy for good 'nuff fairing. I've had it for years. No sense buying a whole quart for just little finish ups.

Yes, sure looks fine. Looks new and is probably better than new. Gotta admire your effort. I'm thinkin' you missed out on the lazy gene! I'll be poppin a beer too in a few hours and all I did was sponge clean my old Pyak14 today. Twenty minutes vs two months. Lord.

Re: More silly Plyak questions (eek)

Agree with Fuzz and Narfi; I don't recall using any butt blocks on the SK14, but go with the plan directions.

Re: Plyak 12 plan question (new boatbuilder)

Take your time on the stitching and post pics for sure. The bow is a little bit of a struggle and may take some "convincing", but it'll work. In mine the bottom panels kept lifting up and the keel line and a bit of weight spread over a 2 x 6 solved that.

Re: Port A XF 20

Console looks good. Looks like you extended it like you talked about when I was there. It's just an amazing amount of progress made since then, dunno how you do it!
