Re: Garvey 13 first time build

I guess I was looking at it the other way - if the plans call for a splice you almost certainly need to splice. If they call for butt-blocks you can almost certainly go either way....

Re: A Cracker Built GF18

CL's a building machine. Wish I could point him at my project and just let him go for a while... Regarding the gap... before the epoxy cures wood soaks a good bit of it up, right? I wonder if that was enough to cause the swell? You'd think, though any swelling would have stopped a long time before y...

Re: Mind's Slow OD18 Build

Ran out of 3/4" so off to get another sheet of the stuff. The voids there are appear to be across the whole panel. I'm just going to fill them with some end-cuts and epoxy and call it a day. The strength even in just one piece of the laminate is crazy. Found out the local lumber store has a bin call...

Re: Mind's Slow OD18 Build

The wanna-be engineer in me has to wonder how much stronger these are vs. production boats. Wikipedia's got an interesting article on fiberglass that shows how tough epoxy-glass is vs. polyester. Something like 400 vs 1400 - whatever the units are that's impressive... Alright - I'm going to cut out ...

Re: Mind's Slow OD18 Build

Thanks - so you go UP the sides but not over the top? Somehow I have it in my head that they're pretty well covered...

Re: Mind's Slow OD18 Build

Moving forward with the OD18. The pain of fitting in the garage I'll deal with later. It'll only be critical with the motor hung and I'm a bit away from that yet :) Still cleaning out the garage (don't ask) but at least I have gotten the fish tank (75g) and stuff that went with it removed. I'll fini...

Re: Garvey 13 first time build

You need to use whatever the plans call for. Different boats will call for different things.

Let me know how you like the lay-out / cut-out process on the GV13.
