Re: Adam’s FL14 repairs and other nonsense

Overly thick layer of fairing compound applied. Why? Because sanding is fun!!!!

Re: SK14 in TX

Stick with slow. Fast will burn you. Literally. Once your local temp is under 75 consider fast. I like fast for fairing as it allows me to get a couple rounds done fast. Motor size is a sticky topic. Jacques provides a max HP to keep you safe. That said, he also understands the litigious nature of s...

Re: Jaysen's V12 -- 'Lil Bit' of everything fun

Let’s be honest ... we keep our AC temp higher than Fuzz’s high temp because it make the house too cold.

Re: Adam’s FL14 repairs and other nonsense

I’ll mention it, but I don’t know what reception it will receive. It might be sufficient to run a solid pine of cypress “mini gunnel” over the rub rail once replaced. I also suspect that wrapping glass will be similar to a gunnel in terms of adding strength. The best answer is “stop being a dumb ars...

Re: Adam’s FL14 repairs and other nonsense

Bah!

There must be an air pocket in the voids that I didn’t fill. The fill sagged significantly over night. I know the wood is sealed Based on the neat that was poured in. I’m thinking I’ll just fill with fairing mix and then paint since this is temp.

How bad of an idea is that?

Re: Adam’s FL14 repairs and other nonsense

I have a feeling the rail popped more from wood deterioration than just the slamming. When we replace the rail we will be glassing it. I suspect it will never come off again.

Re: Adam’s FL14 repairs and other nonsense

I managed not to set Adam’s boat in fire with a sealing coat of neat epoxy with fast hardener. 60min later it was tacky but hard so I filled with SLOW gardener and silica. The observant will comment on a couple lumps of silica visible. This repair needs to last till December when we will cut the who...

Gee for some reason I never have that problem
8O No. You have the "lightspeed hardner" that still moves slow as molasses due to freeze the yeti's balls off cold! 8O

I mean... how does epoxy EVER cure up there?

Re: Jaysen's V12 -- 'Lil Bit' of everything fun

FG and I use a lot of the same methods. In this case the mix was being brushed/poured and was neat so there wasn’t a good option to spread it out. I made too much anyway ... Not a puck this time. More like a 2” flap disc. I make pucks when I’m using expensive additives like silica or graphite. Never...
