Re: Narrowing Beam on XF20

Your models look good. Friends and I have had an annual trip to the White RIver to fish the area in and around Calico Rock for the past ten or twelve years. The boats we rent are a lot like your second model. Long, skinny flat bottomed fiberglass john boats. More like a punt than a garvey. Very uniq...

Re: C19 build.....

The top of the transom takes a beating. In my opinion overlapping the glass over the top would be prudent.

Re: Eric's C21

Eric, Have had similar problems with the tape in the past. Especially the thicker finished edge. It is helpful sometimes to trim the finished edge off of the tape prior to applying as this often allows the tape to lay down better. Also, occasionally making a slit in the tape will help it to go aroun...

Re: Sanding ply before epoxy?

This question is a funny one because it depends on the personal experience, the size of the boat project and amount of obsessive compulsiveness of the boat builder to truly appreciate the question and provide an answer. Sanding the bare plywood before applying epoxy will theoretically improve the fi...

Re: Extreme Flats 20 build questions

Take a look at the GP21. It is essentially the boat you describe after modifying the xf20 with one exception. You get a small amount of V which will help you deal with the Bay chop. Having grown up around the bay myself, crabbing and fishing I can appreciate what you are looking for. The GP21 is a v...

Re: Boat suggestion; between FS14LS & FS17

Seems like you should take a look at the flats stalker 18 (FS18). It might be closer to what you have in mind.

Re: C19 - changing the prop

Even with the aluminum prop you were well below maximum RPMs. My bigger concern is how high you have to rev the motor to go at 6-7 knots which is in the displacement speed range. Something is not right. It is running just well enough to mask something else. Since you don't have motor alarms going of...

Re: C19 - changing the prop

The RPMs are so much lower than maximum at the high end and so much higher at the low end, I suspect that it is not a propeller problem but probably something else like a clogged injector not giving enough fuel to one of the cylinders or another problem causing fuel starvation. 6-7 knots should come...
