Re: 23 ft Hartley Cabin boat repair/rebuild and hull extension

Flowcoat is gelcoat with added wax which allows it to cure. If you sand the top layer down you can recoat the surface again. I have tested it on a scrap piece, hence I am not concerned at the moment. Cheers! In my area of the states this is usually referred to as finish gel coat or just gel coat an...

Re: FS 17 - Raised Sheer

Today I moved the boat from the cradle to the trailer. Access will be a little harder now but I need to be ready to bring it in for motor mounting. I started by jacking up the back of the boat and putting it on some blocks. Then around frame B I jacked it up on each side and pulled the cradle out 1 ...

Re: FS 17 - Raised Sheer

Tell me more about the head lights. Those look sweet! Make sure you have room inside the console for the control cables for the throttle. I had to make a spacer to pull it out an inch when I went to a final install. When anchored I put it forward to clear the space between the leaning post and cons...

Re: FS 17 - Raised Sheer

After working on the lights I realized I had no way to get wire from my forward chase tube up into the anchor locker where the lights and horn are. I cut a hole for a pipe from the anchor locker down into the forward dry storage area. In the anchor locker the pipe will come up about 6 inches so wate...

Re: FS 17 - Raised Sheer

I want to put backing plates for all the deck hardware in before the inwhales get in the way, so I needed to place the 2 cleats and 3 rod holders down each side plus the bow cleat. Started with the small cleats amidships and at the stern. Ht1PXkg For the rod holders I didn't have the correct drill s...

Re: removing miss-mixed fill coat w/blended filler

I use the WEST pumps. First batch of the day is ALWAYS measured on a digital scale, WEST is 5:1 by volume 5.4:1 by weight. The first pump of hardener is always a bit light by a gram. If I was using a 2:1 mix I think I'd either use pumps and a scale, or premeasured cups filled to the same level. 2 f...

Re: FS 17 - Raised Sheer

Thanks! Trying to get at least a tiny piece each day while this work thing is ongoing. I glued the front piece onto the anchor hatch frame. Couldn't do it until I took out the screws from the last glue up as it covers them, which I almost didn't notice yesterday. It's in the kitchen overnight so I d...

Re: FS 17 - Raised Sheer

I've been waylaid by being put on an urgent COVID related project at work(healthcare software). I'm lucky to have the job and it's nice to work on something that might help some people, but have not had a minute for the boat until today, working 12-16 hour days. Just did some quick work as a break f...

Re: Plastic Transom Drain

Don't have anything against a plastic drain plug, but preferably I'd want something captive or even that can be closed from the inside too. Maybe buy a second and mount it near the drain on the inside if that's not an option?

Re: FS 17 - Raised Sheer

I started laying out the hardware on my sidedecks, so I can put the backing plates on before the inwhales are in the way. Played with a ton of layouts but this is what I think I'm going with. Here's the view from the helm: dlWxYB5 Here's the view from outside: xgZH9dZ All the rod holders are also cu...
