You're right about that.. it's easier to deal with someone/some place who will supply everything and give you a break on the cost. I just like to post here before I go to far down a road I don't need to go. The rudder I had planned on making myself out of composite per the plans, though if there wer...

I knew the biaxial was stronger.. I just wanted a recomendation.. 1208 -1708 or biaxial with / without mat etc.. However, it doesn't matter all that much.. whatever I use will be strong enough.. As for the flanges.. I had thought about making them because I wanted SS, low profile and didn't see any ...

TW28 Rudder questions

I plan to start building the rudder for the TW28 next week and wanted to clarify a few things first.. 1) The rudder post is 1 1/4 " 2) Reccommended rudder post material? 3) Reccommended fiber glass rovings? 4) The details on the plans show 2 flanges, one top and one bottom. It also shows a cut out i...

Hey Rick, I would stick with the Nani (forget Yanmar altogether).. Westerbeke is another Mitsubishi marinization, the same as Vetus. At the Maine Boat Boat Builders show I got to see all 4 close up and practically side by side. No question, the Nani marinization is superior.. They're also starting t...

Okay great, so my thought process wasn't too far off base.

Do you want to email me a quote for the hybrid kit? I plan on placing the order late this week or early next..

Happy to hear that the molds are included now, what a tremdous time saver!!

Joel,

Let's clarify first what material is best for this build. I had assumed all along that it was Meranti, but if Okoume is a better option I don't mind using it and paying difference.

I've worked with Okoume before and it's a great material.. and the strength for the weight is impressive..

My understanding was that the boat was designed around Meranti 1/2" for the hull 1/4" Meranti for the superstructure. Alternatively 1/2" foam for the superstructure. I considered using 3/8" Okoume for the superstructure with the understanding that a 4x8 sheet of 1/4" Meranti weighs 25 pounds and a 4...
