Re: Epoxy or wood glue???

epoxy is the way to go resorcinol requires 75 psi of clamping pressure for a period of about 24 hours depending on temperature. Contrary to popular belief, the glue line will be brown not purple (i've use 3 different kinds and now first hand) and it's hard to even notice with meranti. Regardless, ep...

Re: Ilker's TW28

Hello Ilker, I've been quitely following your progress on the TW28.. it's looking very good. If you have a drawing of the rudder shoe, or as I believe you refered to it "propeller protection", would you post it. Short of a drawing more pictures. I've looked at several and have drawn up one of two, b...

Foam Core question..

I'm sure that the answer is obvious, but it's not imeadiately obvous to me. Anyhow, why do we need to remove the foam core in the keel area etc. when building in foam sandwich, but when using plywood as a core we leave it in?

Re: TW28 Samson Post

Daddy, Thanks for the article, we're planning on making it from the same article less the attachment to the keel as the design of the tw28 has it attaching to a bulkhead. We plan on laminating it as opposed to a solid timber that's why I'm curious about the size . 4x4 seems just a tad smaller than i...

Re: Need Ocean Boat with Cabin for Wife.

I would take a look at maine coast lumber.. stay away from the place in sommerville ma as their stock (when I went to see it )was twisted from the way it was stored.. lastly consider the kit from bateau you will save a ton of time and aggravation.

why not the tw28?

I just spent half an hour replying to this and got a data error when i hit submit.. Having said that, and not wanting to spend another 30 minutes reponding let me say that I understand the thin skin issues with cold molded construction and believe anyone doing a cold molded hull that isn't cedar ven...

Then the subject of wood species in composite construction would be limited to wood strength density etc. Don't get me wrong, I have no issues with composite construction using epoxy. (I am building the TW28) I just believe testing should be done to determime if other available wood species like pop...

interesting.. There is a lot of conflicting information out there with regard to wood species and rot example: many Maine lobster boats are often made of white pine. If you believe what you read they should have all rotted and sunk within a couple of years after launch, but they don't. Conversely yo...
