Plastic tie wraps

Post by gonandkarl » Mon Mar 18, 2013 12:43 pm

When does one remove the plastic tie wraps in stitch and glue construction or should only the protruding parts of it be cut of with a pair of pliers ?

Remove all of the plastic zip ties after you spot glue the seams with epoxy putty. Give it 24/48 hours after you putty to make sure the epoxy set.

Then once the zip ties are off, sand/grind the chine and keel to a decent radius. Then putty all of the seams, and lay down your fiberglass tape. For a visual reference look at Shine's new build.

Dear Wegcagle !

I thought it should be done like You described it to me, but You gave me the
confirmation. As a first time boatbuilder I am just not so sure if my thinking is correct.
Thanks very much for the advice.

Greetings from Austria sends
Karl

When building my canoe, I did NOT round over enough, and it made for some tough glassing. Put a good radius on it.
