Another delay...

Post by HogWild » Wed Oct 25, 2017 1:01 pm

Yet another delay to my build. I just found out Irma broke a Rafter in my roof :x . Gonna cost me $1600.00. And I just had a 15" 5hp Merc given to me too :D . All I had to do was give them a ride and take them fishing once in a while 8O ... I guess the plus side is I have more time to decide between the FS12, GF12, or GV11. I like the GV11. Would just have to extend the rear seat to a deck, and the front deck a little more 8) .

A 5 HP motor won't run very fast, and it won't plane much of a boat. A 12 ft boat fills up VERY QUICKLY :!: You may want to consider the FL14 and expect displacement speeds.

TRC886 Thanks for the advice. :help: But due to finances I have to make some compromise. 8O This boat will fit bill/ program better. See for a little while I'll be using a utility trailer and dolly to get in and out of the water. Since I'll be alone most of the time it'll be easy for me to handle alone. Once I get back on my feet again I'll start looking at some of the others. :D

You know I sometimes think the smaller the boat the more you use it. 12 feet and 5 horses could be a lotta fun.

Dougster I agree. Some of the best memories with my Uncle ( basically the man who raised me.) were in a smaller boat. We could take it to places bigger ones couldn't go. :D

Besides, even at 1/2 max recommended hp, they should still move out at a pretty good clip. :D Full load or not. Plus there is some safety and peace of mind in slightly lower hp and speed. I'm looking at more than just speed. :P

We use our 15.5 foot square back canoe a lot! With just under 400 pounds the 5hp can get it up to 10+ mph via gps.
Extended the tongue of a 7 foot utility trailer, 2"X6" X10' carpeted boards, one roller on the back of the trailer and it is easy for one person to handle loading and unloading. Even added the bracket for the winch and front stop to make one person operation even easier. Everything is so light can be towed with my Kia Soul.

When needed as a "utility" trailer we unbolt the boards and done.
