FS13 Plan Update?

Post by BB Sig » Tue Mar 26, 2019 12:54 pm

I'd like to recommend a change in the plans for the FS13/SK14. I think there should be a note or line that the rubrails should be installed prior to foaming under the sole. I think others have had the same problem I did when they foamed prior to installing rubrails. This seems to create a wavy hull that takes more work and materials to make smooth.

I think the rubrails being installed first would have prevented this.

I expect the builder to put the rubrails on before flipping the hull. I will check to see if the building notes mention that explicitly.

From a different thread but same topic...

The building notes say:
In most cases, the sheer line will be fair but this is worth checking. If necessary, clamp a temporary rubrail (a plain wooden batten) to the sheer edge to preserve the sheer line fairness.
on page 5, well before the foam stage.
I will add a comment to the foam paragraph:
Before pouring the foam, be certain that the rubrail or at least a temporary rubrail (mentioned earlier) is installed. If not, pressure of the foam may distort the side panel sheer edge.
Thanks Jacques! I think the SK14 builders may need the same note.
