D5 Questions for Jacques

Post by Jeff » Fri May 08, 2020 4:06 pm

This question arrived via email just now: "Hello, I would like to built a D5. I saw that on most of your photos the drift well is at the seat, on others, it is shifted forward as on a Sabot dinghy. Is it possible to choose the place during construction? I'm french, could it be possible to have the download with the metric system? Many thanks" Jeff

Yes you can have the metric version, it is included.
About the daggerboard trunk (puit de derive). It looks different because the picture is mislabeled.
The trunk on the D5 is under the mid seat.
We havea nother boat named PK78 that is very close in size and style and that one has a trunk in front of a frame. Somebody put the wrong picture in the D5 folder at the web site, sorry.
Check out the PK78, it is a nice dinghy too.

I have a D5. The thing I like about it is its versatility:
  • Will take an outboard
  • rows ok apparently (I only tried once)
  • Strap some diy pontoons on the side and it's a safe stand up fishing platform (fly or spinner)
  • light so launch anywhere
  • I sit near the front and paddle with a kayak paddle little fuss and decent speed
  • Will take an adult and a kid.
  • Will take a sail
