1988 Correct Craft Barefoot Nautique

Post by DAYTRIP » Sat Feb 09, 2008 9:32 pm

I am currectly replacing the floor and stringers in my 1988 Barefoot Nautique. I thought I would share the progress here so that I can get some help from Jaques and Joal. I will be visiting them in the next week to get supplies.

Question for Jaques, the exisiting stringers are 1.5"x4" and I believe they are clear fir. Do you think a built up plywood stringer would be of equal or better quality or should I go with a solid piece of lumber?

I would go plywood of equal thickness and cap it with Biax. Clear fir is strong, but hard to find and you get a little more rot protection with laminated plywood.

This will be a pretty easier re-build. Basically a sole and stringers/frames. If you decide replace the carpet its even easier - very little fairing :)

Daytrip, you need to check out CorrectCraftFan.com. There is a member who is currently replacing the stringers in his Barefoot Nautique, and documenting the entire process.

I need to post some progress shoots on this but this rebuild was finished about 8 months ago. Diehard Nautique fans won't like it but it is 10 times better than what the factory spit out. Doing a 1989 Ski Nautique now.
