New deck installation

Post by qahqn8 » Tue Dec 15, 2015 7:27 pm

Hi guys, just found a 20' skiff in great shape. However it will need a new sole and I'm not sure how well I could adhere it to the old fiberglass. Is this possible? Is it even worth trying? Thanks for any information.

No problem at all providing you clean and abrade the old fiberglass and then use epoxy for the bonding

Thank you for the information. Are there any good links for specifics on sanding and prep? This will be my first restoration. Thanks

So I went to get pics and decided to thoroughly look this thing over...wow what a mess. There was a new gel coat on the hull but the fiberglass underneath was flimsy and would crack simply by pushing on it gently. I think I'll be looking for another project, so glad I didnt buy it.

Good decision. It is sometimes easier to build a new boat from scratch than to repair one in bad shape.
