Stratos Restoration

Post by Mbiggerstaff » Mon Jan 28, 2019 7:49 am

My dad bought this boat new in 1985 or so. My brother has had it for the past few years but just purchased a new boat. The Boat was looking for a home and I couldn't turn her out . Have not had a chance to check out stringers or transom yet. It has been stored covered for most of its life. The engine is a 2 stroke 175 with very low hours and reportedly runs. It is a 21 I believe. What do you guys know about Stratos boats from the mid 80s. From what I can find Stratos is known for bass boats.

Interesting boat!
Looks like it is going to require your special kind of skill set!

They made a lot of CC’s you see a lot of them in South Carolina. Definitely a lot of wood, most problems started with through hull fittings and the fuel tank inspection plate, from what I have read, I had an uncle that fished one religiously out of Freeport, I was out with him a couple times when we really shouldn’t have made it back. From what I remember it was a little wet in a tight swell. And the cut out would make you pucker backing down.

Bass boats went to composite in 97 and all models composite after 98.

It’s a 20cc and is out of Charleston South Carolina. Thanks for the input. My family used it in the lakes and intercostal. Dad picked it up after I moved away so I don’t have any experience with it. I guess this one will go to composite in 2019!

Have you had a chance to see what all needs to be done?

I believe that Stratos was a high quality, high end boat, built with hand laid glass. They were best known for their bass boats, and were competing directly against Ranger. IMHO: This boat is worth your attention.
