Just to make sure I understand you right your talking about filling the holes and gaps....or are you saying I didn’t put enough filler in the epoxy when I laminated the pieces.fallguy1000 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2017 6:06 pmGo get some gorilla 2"+? shipping tape and start to prewrap a bit. Edges are tough to wrap, but the faces shouldn't need much sanding. I don't know the specific build, but it looks like you could use a bit more filler. If you tape each side of a seam; once you force the glue into the join; remove the tapes to the trash. You can use 1" masking tapes each side and a 1" scraper for small joins. Ends up zero sanding.

Yup, just fill em all the way up, but avoid sanding the veneers when you do the fills. Use masking tapes and small putty knife. Use wide gorilla tape when you risk making a bigger mess. Sanding all the epoxy; especially with cabosil will end up damaging your wood surfaces too much.
Re: FS17 Restart
So haven't posted in a while but getting to where I am looking to start final clean up on my laminates and building the jig....which means right angles and accurate cuts. No problem table saw.....well mine is off and posted below is the garage, I have too much going on in there. So first steps are the true the table saw and finish the work bench sitting on the saw horses. We'll make them the same height so we can prop up large parts on them easy. This weekend we took the table saw apart and trued it up, started 1/64th out and we are less then a micron now yay. Used the new accuracy to make a jig to finish out the mortises on the work bench tomorrow. We'll use the jig and a straight bit on the top and then the flush trim bit from the bottom. The legs may take a few weeks to finish up but I can post pics as we go or we'll pic back up when I get the shop squared away.
Re: FS17 Restart
So haven’t posted here in a while. Got all my parts cut out and starting to use hand planes to make sure they are all symmetrical. Also need to route out the dados for the stringers in the transom, but happy to see progress. Made the work surface tonight of the jig. Used plywood for dimensional stability and haven’t seen this before but a Kreg jig for making the supports perfect. Pictures attached but the kreg jig with the clamp got everything at 90 degrees and then reinforced with screws from the outside.

I'm not sure for the low sheer, but my legs were too short the first try for my standard sheer, the bow point goes lower than you expect.
If the low sheer uses a bow mould, you could probably estimate with it how much you need to keep it a few inches above the floor, you don't want it too close as it's hard to work that close to the floor.
Re: FS17 Restart
So pro tip there got the jig off the floor today, went up super easy. I fixed one of the leg assemblies and clamped the other, flipped and leveled. Still some reinforcement needed but ran out of 2x4s. Also still up in the air but I made a post a while about my stringers, looking like they are 6 inches too short. I will probably use some scrap, hallow out part of the current stringer and attach an extension in the end. But starting final clean up on my parts before assembly. Re: FS17 Restart
So posting here makes me feel obligated to keep making progress. So probably not much excitement but it keeps me working. Tonight we reinforced the strong back so it’s all ready to go. I am going to leave my stringers uncut until I get the frames in place just to make sure everything fits perfect. So tomorrow we’ll be cutting the stringer notches in the transom and getting it squared away.

Whatever it takes, Just keep on building!

Re: FS17 Restart
What Eric says. Momentum is everything and we all like pics of builds. One thing, in your post you used the word perfect. Personally, I threw that word away long ago

Good to see you back.
A couple of things Never say never and anything you do can be fixed, its only wood and glue. Just ask what you can do to fix it. If you have made a mistake 10 other guys have probably made it also.
