Conchfish 16 (HB Whipray) Build

Post by fishgitr » Sat Apr 21, 2018 4:50 pm

Well guys, the time has came again. The beginning of a new build. I have always been fascinated with the HB Whipray. I reached out to Chris Morejohn (the designer of the Original Whipray) about building a one off Whipray. He sold me plans for a one off named the Conchfish. It is identical hull to the Whipray but with a change in the spray rails from what I understand. With that being said, I plan to make it a completely foam core boat. I will post pictures when I begin. This is a much harder build than JM’s plans. These are all scaled and you have to calculate them.

fishgtr, I don't want to be a spoil sport but since this is not a Jacques designed boat would you please move your build up to Anything Else. It has been the Forum's policy not to support boats that are not sold here. You can post it in Anything Else for the builders to follow along, but not use any of the other categories or support areas. It would not be fair to those who bought plans here. You will need to go to where you bought your plans for tech support not here also. I am not being mean or nasty that is just the way it works. We would love to watch your build. :D

Tom, thanks for your support as always but Fishgitr asked for the approval to post this non-Jacques Build here and I agreed for him to do so!! Although not a Bateau plan, there could be real value in seeing a design not from our three designers to truly show the detail and valued support form Jacques, Evan and Richard (& all other builders here at the forum) as compared to other designers. We know Jacques, Evan & Richard are all much more detailed with their plans but taking another view might benefit someone on the Forum!! Again, thank you for all of your support and contribution!! Jeff

Thanks Jeff! I wasn’t trying to disrespect anyone. That is why I went to Jeff first before posting anything. We all have one thing in common. We love building boats.

Really nice lines on that skiff. I can see that in cedar planks or some other type of wood, but a core build might be interesting. 375 pounds is light, but I assume that is the bare hull. Is that a big step in the sides right at the style line?

Disregard everything earlier about where and what to post. There have been lots of non-Bateau builds documented and assisted here on this forum. As you said, we all love building boats...even those who have never built one 8)

Thanks Capeman!! It would be cool to use cedar strips!! Yes that is a big spray rail. I have attached photos of another guy who is building the same skiff in cedar. He has done such a great job.ImageImage
