Stars and Stripes Blue - Awlgrip

Post by Coach » Sun Jun 23, 2019 7:36 pm

I have been debating what top coat color to choose and while on vacation in Bermuda I immediately saw this catamaran with a blue that I really was impressed with, the more I looked at it the more I liked it. I emailed the captain of the Rising Sun to ask what his paint code or color name was and he was glad to say Stars and Stripes Blue and sure enough its an Awlgrip color!
Has anyone painted their project with this color?

Which stars and stripes blue? The one on the USA flag, or the one on the hull of Dennis Connor America's Cup winner? They are not the same.

Some years ago I was smitten by a yacht at anchor that was the latter. Like you, I enquired, was told it was S and S Blue. Then I learnt that a boat in a nearby marine was so painted, inspected her, and was surprised that it was a different blue to the one I had fancied.

Turns out that Dennis Connor was struck by the blue of the new Volvo that the wife of one of his crew was driving, his boat named Stars and Stripes was painted that Volvo blue, and now it's known in yachting circles as Stars and Stripes Blue.
Completed R13 two part nesting rowboat. ST 21 under construction .... where seeking perfection is recognized as the enemy of the good.

Wow! That is pretty! You really can't go wrong with a blue like that or one similar. Up until a few days ago I was dead set on painting my AD16 red and white, but then one of the guys building a houseboat used EMC's Whaler Blue!! Now I'm liking it so much I'm not sure what I'm going to do :D

I am with you on that! I was dead set on a glossy gray until I saw this blue catamaran. I couldn't stop looking at it.
